I am often asked why I decided to become a physical therapist and specialize in women's health. My passion to help women began early in my career when I developed stress incontinence while training for marathons in NYC. I was in my 20s and peeing in my running shorts. How annoying and embarrassing! When I sought medical help from a urologist, she suggested surgery. When I asked about pelvic floor strengthening, she told me I couldn't do kegals for 26.2 miles. This wasn't the help I was looking for so I researched pelvic floor rehabilitation and began taking classes around the country to help women with similar problems.

My climbing companions and I prepped, and we trained – all in the name of hitting that peak. But guess what? Reality had other ideas. Rain, snow, wind, hail – you name it, we faced it. My imagined warm and sunny ascent turned into a wild dance with the elements. Imagine me at the end of the first day, sleeping in a temporary hut at 11,600 ft., huddled in layers, hoping for warmth.
