Meet Andreas Aponte
My name is Andreas and I am a mom, wife, entrepreneur, and member of the administrative team at Newark Academy. I was born and lived my whole life in Puerto Rico until 2021, when I relocated to New Jersey. This move was a very welcome step in my journey to support my husband's medical training.
My most recent challenges have stemmed from my adventure into motherhood. I had a very complicated pregnancy, during which I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) and, at the end of 2021, my 4-year-old son was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. These events made me prioritize even further my role as a mom and how my career fits around my family's particular needs. As such, I am very vocal about my support and defense of working moms, reproductive rights, and mental and physical health and education.
I am also a survivor of sexual assault. Although the process to heal from the trauma has been long and complex, I have challenged myself to share my story and raise awareness in the hopes that my experience will support and educate others.
I received my BS in Economics with a minor in Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. I currently work as Director of Auxiliary Services at Newark Academy. Within my position, I am in charge of all things transportation, facilities rentals, and campus store.
Additionally, I am Owner and CFO of a vacation rentals management business based in Puerto Rico. My responsibilities include bookkeeping, managing our online listings, and supporting client relations.
I am an avid organizer and planner, to a fault, and enjoy every opportunity to problem-solve.
I was introduced to The Co-Co by a colleague who suggested I would be a good fit for their community. It is my hope that The Co-Co will provide a safe space and opportunities to share my story and use my particular life and professional experiences to support others.
