Member Spotlight: Meet Andrea Stein

I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Springfield, New Jersey, and now live in Summit -- with stops at Bard College (BA), Cornell University (MA), and Hoboken -- in between. I've spent my professional career as a book publicist, primarily representing authors of non-fiction books, particularly in the business space. However, I have always been a writer -- since childhood. My debut novel, TYPECAST, was released in September 2022. I began writing it in fall 2014, so it was a long and winding road to publication. TYPECAST takes place in suburban New Jersey, and is the story of Callie Dressler, a 31-year-old preschool teacher who lives alone in the house she grew up in, her parents having re-located to Florida. Her life is already about to be turned upside down when her Type A sister, brother-in-law, and niece move in with her while their house is under construction. And then she hears about a major new movie coming out -- written by her ex-boyfriend and apparently based on their breakup. It's full of sister drama, romance, regrets, and forgiveness. BuzzFeed called Callie one of their favorite main characters of 2022!

I continue to work as a book publicist, but my focus is on growing my reputation as a novelist. I have two other novels in the works now, and want to keep momentum going for TYPECAST. However, I am happy to advise on publicity/PR in general, based on my nearly 28 year career in the field -- and also to cheerlead and cross-promote other authors!

I've been aware of The Co-Co since it opened, but several members recently talked to me about what a supportive group of amazing women it is. As I'm continuing down this road as "new author," building my network is very much a priority for me. I'm also planning to use the space to work as I juggle my two jobs -- publicity and writing.
