The short answer is my husband and I moved to the Northeast when he started the MBA program at Columbia. We were dirt poor but knew there were better days ahead. Our special dates were walking in Central Park, eating an ice cream and dreaming. We worked very hard, moved from NYC to Brooklyn and landed in Summit. We raised our two children here and remain in our house for 27 years. We’re not going anywhere since my husbands early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.
My personal journey is more detailed but at the end of the day, Center for the Heart was founded so we could raise funds for Alzheimer’s and support all those in need. I had been doing end-of-life doula and grief work for over 14 years and now it’s truly in my face. I love what I do. My professional work enhances my work and support of my husband and visa versa. Truly a gift.
Our work is sacred. We are end-of-life doulas and grief support specialists. Our clients come to us at different stages of life. Some are astute enough to plan ahead and get all their affairs in order. Others come when their loved ones are terminal and they need help finding hospices and aides AND support in navigating all the dysfunction that can come at this stage. Some come for grief support for themselves and their families. We are here to serve all those in need. We recognize all the different cultures, beliefs and values and are extremely sensitive to honoring our clients where they are.
